Controversies Surrounding 2016 Budget Proposal Finally Laid to Rest
President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly to diffuse issues generated by the 2016 Budget proposal that was laid before the joint session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. In his communication to the parliament, which was read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara during plenary on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, the President explained that few amendments were effected to the 2016 Appropriation Bill without necessarily altering the total figure.
With submission of the corrected version of the draft breakdown document that accompanies the Appropriation Bill, he appealed to the lawmakers to discard the former draft details and make use of the new version that has been made available to the National Assembly from his office.
The Speaker Rt. Hon. Dogara weighed in on the matter, stating that the doctrine of rectification allows President Buhari, being the author of the document to make corrections where necessary ; adding that the House has adopted the request of Mr. President on the 2016 Appropriation Bill.
