SENATE PASSES TWO CONSOLIDATED NIGERIA PEACE CORPS BILLS FOR SECOND READING
The Senate on Thursday, March 10, 2016 debated and passed for second reading two consolidated Bills on Nigeria Peace Corps (NPC). Before deliberation on the general principles of the Bills, a Motion seeking to consolidate the two legislation into one for the purpose of debate was approved by the Hallowed Chamber. The Bills that the got nod of the Senate to progress to the Committee level for further legislative inputs include:
1) A Bill for an Act to Establish the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) to train, educate, re-orient the youths, particularly students, to facilitate Peace and Youth Development and for other related matters 2016 (S.B. 173), sponsored by Senate Leader, Muhammed Ali Ndume (Borno South).
2) A Bill for an Act to establish the National Unity and Peace Corps to uphold and impart the attributes of National Ethics for restituting diligence, rekindle and rejuvenate the virtues of discipline in the citizenry and build a society of resourceful and productive persons for national consciousness and for other matters connected therewith 2016 (S.B. 183), sponsored by Sen. Binta Masi Garba.

The Bills sailed through second reading after an exhaustive debate by Distinguished Senators; both Bills have been referred to the Senate Committees on Interior and Special Duties to report back in four weeks.

Similarly, the Red Chamber has considered, adopted and approved the following reports of its Committees at plenary session:
a) The Report of Senate Committee on Special Duties on the “The establishment of Presidential Intervention Committee on the Rehabilitation of the North-East Zone” in respect to a Motion on the subject matter. It was presented by Sen. Abdul Aziz Murtala Nyako (Adamawa Central). Four recommendations of the Committee were approved:
b) Report of Joint Committee on Health, Agriculture and Rural Development in respect of a Motion on the Ban on Agricultural Products by the European Union, presented by Sen. Olanrewaju Tejuoso (Ogun Central). The Committee’s six recommendations on the report were approved by the Chamber.
c) The Report of Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in respect of a petition from Mr. Anaele Mark against Nigeria Customs Service for alleged wrongful retirement from service. 

The Committee’s recommendations reinstating him, sought his promotion to be at par with his contemporaries and urging the Committee on Customs to ensure the implementations of the recommendations were approved by the Senate; the report was presented by Sen. Samuel Anyanwu.
