Ministerial Nomination: House Felicitates With One of Their Own
Members of the House of Representatives during plenary session on Thursday October 15 2015 congratulated one of their own, Hon. Kadijat Buka Ibrahim who was nominated for Ministerial position by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, while congratulating the nominee on behalf of the entire members of the House of Representatives charged her to be a good ambassador of the House and serve the nation whole heartedly.
â€œWe send you forth to go out there and represent this House well” he charged. Amidst standing ovation and thunderous applause from her colleagues, Hon. Ibrahim stood up to appreciate the House.

In another development, a member representing the Federal Capital Territory, in the House, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo raised a matter of breach of privilege, citing section 147(3) and 229 of the 1999 Constitution as amended to lay a complain about the Federal Capital’s exclusion from the current Ministerial nominees’ list that was submitted to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He averred that the exclusion of Abuja indigenes from the list leaves a feeling of marginalization and denial to participate in the governance of the nation. His position was supported by the Minority Leader, Hon. Leo Ogor who requested the House to urge Mr. President to include an indigene of Abuja on the list.

However, the appeal was dead upon arrival following the ruling from the Chair that the Ministerial nominees screening exercise is ongoing and until it is concluded, nobody can confidently say that the Federal Capital has been excluded.

Meanwhile, the House has advocated for the use of concrete for construction of roads because it has proven to be cheaper, durable and suitable for Nigerian roads. Hon. Hassan Salleh who brought the matter to the floor informed that the former Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, confirmed that the Federal Government was set to begin a trial process for the construction of roads using concrete rather than asphalt, to make the roads last longer.

He prayed the House to urge the Federal Ministry of Works to as a matter of urgent national importance, explore the use of concretes in the construction and maintenance of the nation’s highways. His prayers were granted with slight amendment by other Members.
