House of Representatives Calls For Stern Action On Kaduna Killings



The House of Representatives has condemned the resurgence of killings and destruction of properties in Kaduna State, the members called for actions to halt the spate of the killings orchestrated by armed men. The Minority Whip of the House, Hon. Yakubu Barde, during plenary on Tuesday, 19th March, 2019 urged the Chamber to suspend its rules and take his motion as a matter of urgent public importance. He informed that aside scores killed in the attacks, several victims were also abducted.
He asked security agencies, especially the police, to identify and bring to justice, the perpetrators of the mayhem. Other Members of the House contributed to the motion and urge the President to order the military and the police to be more proactive in identifying exact areas of the attacks in Kaduna with a view to ending the killings immediately. Hon. Barde informed that over 50 lives were reportedly lost in the recent attacks starting from October 18, after a crisis erupted at Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru local government area of the State. 

In another development, the House passed for second reading a Bill which seeks to repeal the Nigerian Law Reform Act, and enact the Nigerian Law Reform Commission Bill to facilitate the effective implementation of the Commission's law reform proposals and enhance its performance. The Bill was sponsored by the Majority leader of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila who led debate on the general principles guiding the Bill. 
The Bill scaled second reading on the floor of the House, as the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara emphasized the importance of the intendment of the Bill. He consequently gave his leave for the long title of the Bill to be read.
