SENATE HOLDS VALEDICTORY SESSION IN HONOUR OF LATE SEN. ADELEKE
The plenary session of the Upper Legislative Chamber on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 started with an Executive session that lasted more than an hour; which discussed issues concerning the Senate and the National Assembly. The Session presided over by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki depicted law-makers in a state of mourning their colleague, Sen Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke who died on Sunday, 23rd April, 2017.

Consequently, the Chamber held a valedictory session for late Sen. Adeleke in which the Senators paid glowing tributes in honour of their late colleague, who until his death represented Osun West Senatorial District in the Red Chamber. Among the law-makers that eulogized the late Senator include; the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, Senate Chief Whip, Shola Adeyeye, Sen. Binta Masi Garba, Sen. George Sekibo, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, Sen. Kabiru Gaya and Sen. Gbenga Ashafa. The session climaxed with the passage of two prayers below:
i) Observe a minute silence in honour of the deceased
ii) Senate to send a Committee to condole with the family of the late Senator, the people and government of Osun State. Members of the Committee include; Sens. Shaaba Lafiagi – Chairman, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Clifford Ordia, Binta Masi and Barnabas Gemade
Meanwhile, the Senate has also deliberated upon and passed two other motions which include:
a) The attempted assassination of Sen. Dino Melaye, sponsored by Sen. Isa Hammah Misau. It was passed with five resolutions below:
I) Senate condemned the attack in its entirety.
II) Direct the Inspector General of Police to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the culprits.
III) Set up an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the circumstance surrounding the assassination attempt and the poor response of the Nigeria Police Force in tackling the threat.
IV) Senate to send a Committee to meet with the Executive Governor of Kogi State on the matter.
V) Urge the Nigeria Police to make available the reports of assassination cases across the country including that of Marshal Harry.
b) Breaking into the Abuja Residence of Sen. Danjuma Goje by the Nigeria Police moved by the law-maker via point of order 42. The Motion has been referred to the Ad-hoc Committee set up to investigate the assassination attempt on Sen. Dino Melaye. Members of the Committee include Sens. Barau Jibrin – Chairman, Isa Hammah Misau, Foster Ogula, Chukwuka Utazi, David Umaru and Danbaba.
