House Adjourns Plenary In Honour Of Late Senator Adeleke
The resumption of plenary at the House of Representatives on Tuesday, 25th April, 2017 was greeted with the sad news of the unfortunate demise of a serving Senator, Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke representing Osun West. Speaker Yakubu Dogara gave leave to Professor Mojeed Alabi to make the announcement on his behalf since the late Senator hails from his Constituency in Osun State.

Professor Mojeed gave an emotional tribute to the man he described as an enigma and great philanthropist. He said being the first civilian Governor of Osun State at the age of 37, and the son of a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the late Senator Adeleke had a tall political pedigree and did endear himself to the hearts of his people. One of the legislative focus of the late Senator, he said, include to engineer a reform in the Nigeria Prisons System, but regrets to say that that dream may now never be realized.

The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Lassun who also hails from Osun State lent his voice in paying tribute to the deceased. He reflected on the political history of the late Senator, noting that he was perhaps another astute politician after late Chief Awolowo who campaigned in the whole of the South Western Nigeria using helicopter; he further described him as exceptionally gifted.

The House observed a minute of silence to Honour Late Sen. Adeleke and prayed for the family and people of Osun West he left behind. It was on this sad note that the Chamber as a matter of legislative practice adjourned sitting till Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
