Welcome to the Nigeria Senate!

This site will give you an overview of members of the Senate of the 7th National Assembly, the committees of the Senate, the work being executed by the Senate in terms of Legislation and much more. The 7th National Assembly (2011 -2015) was inaugurated on 6th June, 2011. Out of the 109 Senators of the Senate, 36 were re-elected while 73 were elected for the first time

SENATE APPROVES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN THREE STATES
2013/05/21
The Senate at its Tuesday 21st May, 2013 plenary session read on the floor of the Chamber a Presidential communication requesting the Hallow Chamber to approve the Proclamation of State of Emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States. Sequel to the request by the Commander in Chief of the Arm Forces of the Federation, the Red Chamber went into a closed session and resumed plenary with the following decisions read by the Senate President, David Mark.

SENATORS DELIBERATE ON NIGERIA'S PREPAREDNESS FOR FLOODS
2013/05/16
Sen. Ita Enang along with over a hundred Senators sponsored a motion on the 'Emergency Preparedness For 2013 Flood And Rainfall Prediction: Urgent Need For Dredging And Desilting Of River Niger, The Cross River, River Benue And Other Inland Waterways In Nigeria.' The motion describes how there was 'release of water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroun' and 'an excessive rainfall in Nigeria' which collectively caused 'the overflow of the banks of the River Niger.

SENATORS CELEBRATE CHINUA ACHEBE
2013/05/15
Sen. Chris Ngige along with 107 other Senators sponsored a motion on the 'Death of Professor Chinualumogu Albert Achebe (Ogo N'abo of Ogidi)OFR, NNMA November 16, 1930 to March 21, 2013'. The motion captured the distinguished and internationally acclaimed late writer, Chinua Achebe, who was born in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
